Our team at VML Canada partnered with the Rick Hansen Foundation to craft a distinct and professional identity for their consultancy. Our goal was to develop a brand meticulously committed to accessibility, showcasing how these foundational principles could lead to designs that are beautiful, modern, and human. This collaboration allowed us to deliver a comprehensive brand strategy, naming, identity, and an accessible website, all engineered to reflect a human-centred approach to advising on inclusive spaces for people of all ages and abilities.

We meticulously integrated accessibility into every design choice, ensuring visually engaging and highly functional elements. Our updated logo integrates a camera's aperture with a wheelchair wheel, signifying a holistic, 360-degree view of and focus on accessibility. We developed a colour-blind compliant palette with shades chosen to minimize eye strain, and paired it with a highly legible font developed by the Braille Institute. Beyond these, we integrated photography that focalizes and heroes people with disabilities, both visible and invisible. We strategically employed blurs and light leaks, utilizing our accessible colors, to subtly suggest societal blindspots regarding people with disabilities, a challenge Access in Motion aims to mitigate, all while cultivating a visually distinct and contemporary aesthetic. These choices collectively formed a fresh, optimistic aesthetic that successfully elevates accessibility to an aspirational level.
